Showcasing rich aboriginal history
Fort McMurray, situated in Northern Alberta in the Wood Buffalo Region, is home to rich history with deep aboriginal roots. At the heart all of Total’s projects, we continue to honor traditions and celebrate the natural and authentic way of life for the aboriginal communities around Wood Buffalo.
Through a partnership with MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray, Total E&P Canada has worked to create the Total Aboriginal Trail. The trail serves as an educational focal point for school children. Showcasing local aboriginal art and artistic renderings, the interpretive trail provides a walk through the aboriginal history of the area for local residents and visitors.
Building a better future together
Situated on MacDonald Island Park, the Total Aboriginal Trail improves daily life for those that call Fort McMurray home by preserving the natural environment, incorporating local art and serving as a highly utilized recreational area to improve overall wellbeing. The trail will continue to host organized marathons, runs, and walks and bring the community together through art and history.
Eventually leading to the future Aboriginal Cultural Centre, the trail also serves as a start and finish point for the traditional Northern Dog Races. Together, we are honoring the past and looking towards the bright future.
